Rinspeed iChange Concept – A Shapeshifting Electric Car

Rinspeed iChange

Swiss tuning shop Rinspeed unveiled their latest crazy concept car. Called the iChange, it’s exactly as the name implies. The idea here is that the body changes depending on how many passengers are occupying the inside.

When only the driver is present, the car slips into a compact and streamlined shape reminiscent of a sports car. When more space is needed, the teardrop shaped rear end pops up to seat three. Obviously a proof of concept and of questionable usefulness, the iChange won’t ever be made, but Rinspeed says is a “signal for the coming global changes to individual mobility.” Whatever that means. But that’s not the only concept idea thrown in the iChange…

You surely noticed the lower-case “i” before the name, seeming to brand itself as a typical Apple product. No, Apple hasn’t gotten into the car business – instead of using a standard key, you use an iPhone with a special application to control many of the car’s features.

The iChange Concept runs on a 150kW (204 horsepower) electric motor powered by a set of lithium-ion batteries. This all-electric configuration will propel the iChange from 0 to 62 mph in just over 4 seconds, all the way to a top speed of 136 mph.

Check out a video of the iChange Concept after the photos…

About The Author

I founded Small-business-internet-marketing.info in May of 2006 to share my love of cars. My favorites include the Lamborghini Diablo 6.0 VT and Koenigsegg CCX, and I think the Ferrari 360 Spider is still one of the sexiest cars in existence. For “normal” cars, I like imports – Nissan, Audi, Subaru… I love my Pearl Yellow (don’t judge) 1990 Nissan 300ZX TT and plan to get it to around 550 HP one day. I’m also an avid world traveler and love rock climbing.
